TRL (Technology Readiness Level) measures how mature a technology is, from idea (1) to a system in production (9). Answer 9 questions and discover your level — and what it really takes to move up to the next.
The Technology Readiness Level is a scale from 1 to 9 used by industry, the EU and research centers to indicate the maturity of a technology: from basic scientific principles (TRL 1) to a complete system already proven in production (TRL 9).
The hardest jump is between TRL 4 and 7 — the so-called "valley of death": validation in a real environment and an industrial prototype. It's exactly the phase where our scientific validation.
Answer starting from the top. Count how far you get with consecutive "Yes" answers.
Have you observed and documented the basic scientific principles the technology is based on?
Have you formulated the technology concept and identified possible practical applications?
Do you have an experimental proof-of-concept demonstrating feasibility?
Have you validated the components or system in the laboratory?
Have you validated the technology in a relevant environment (conditions similar to real ones)?
Do you have a prototype demonstrated in a relevant environment?
Have you demonstrated the prototype in a real operational environment?
Is the system complete and qualified through testing and demonstrations?
Has the system already been successfully proven in an operational/production environment?
Document the basic scientific principles (TRL 1).
This is our territory: we turn theory into solid experimental proof.
